"On September 16, the "Forum on the Development of Next-Generation Optical Transmission Network Technology" organized by CIOEC was held at the Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Center. Bu Qinlian, Deputy General Manager of Accelink, delivered a keynote speech titled "Selection of the Next-Generation Broadband Network Technology for Interconnection at the Outskirts of Metro Regions, Counties, and Townships". Bu Qinlian has been in charge of Accelink's business operations related to optical amplifiers, passive devices, transmission modules, and other products for a long time, and has in-depth experience in the development of optoelectronic devices, modules, and other products.
Bu Qinlian was the first to analyze the status quo of internet at outskirts of metro regions, counties, and townships. He pointed out the relatively low popularity of internet in China's counties and townships, and the large gap between urban areas and rural areas in terms of internet-related infrastructure. In addition, with the popularity of Robotaxi, ADAS, AR/MR, LBS, and other low-latency and high-bandwidth application scenarios, edge computing in metro area nodes is becoming a rapidly growing emerging field. As the current solutions in metro areas cannot meet the new demand in terms of cost and technology, it is of great practical significance to study the next-generation broadband network technology for interconnection at the outskirts of metro areas, counties, and townships.
In his report, Bu Qinlian analyzed the characteristics of the network at the outskirts of metro areas—the transmission distance is within 150 km, the rate ranges from 25 Gbps to 400 Gbps, there is extreme cost-sensitiveness, and there is a demand for rapid iteration. Based on these characteristics and the current situation of industry development, the report provided a variety of options, including a coherent scheme, quasi-coherent scheme, and IM-DD direct modulation scheme. Bu Qinlian also analyzed the rate selection and system structure considerations for the internet in the outskirts of metro areas, counties, and townships, and conducted a detailed comparison of the characteristics of different solutions in terms of cost, performance, and power consumption.
Finally, Bu Qinlian summarized and spoke about the next-generation broadband network technology for interconnection at the outskirts of metro areas, counties, and townships. He pointed out that as a key step in bridging the "bandwidth divide"and achieving "ubiquitous broadband,"there is a need to achieve an effective balance between cost and performance in technical solutions. The coherent scheme has the best performance, but it is difficult to achieve cost-effective interconnection with relatively low performance requirements in the outskirts of metro areas, counties, and townships due to cost. Technologies including "SSB quasi-coherence" and "zero-difference auto-coherence and other quasi coherence"are expected to become the optimal solutions in future but need to overcome technical difficulties. Although, due to its performance, the ColorZ scheme of the IM-DD PAM4 route has been available for some applications in the DCI market, it is difficult to meet the requirements of interconnection in the outskirts of metro areas, counties, and townships. The O-band single-wave 100 G scheme is less affected by chromatic dispersion and is bound to be widely used after the problems of availability and transmission nonlinearity of optical amplifier are solved. The ColorA scheme has become increasingly mature after several years of development, and it is a relatively balanced solution for interconnection applications in the outskirts of metro areas, counties, and townships.
As a provider of "chips, devices, modules, and system solutions,"Accelink will cooperate with all parties in the industry chain to tackle key problems, strengthen innovation in next-generation interconnection applications in the outskirts of metro areas, counties, and townships, and jointly promote the genuine realization of "Internet China, Broadband China"at the earliest.
